Dr. Mira An’s research focuses on the relational, cultural, and contextual aspects of psychotherapy processes and outcomes, as well as broader mental health concerns. She is particularly interested in both theory-specific (e.g., psychodynamic, interpersonal, multicultural) and common factors that shape the therapy process, including the therapeutic relationship, therapeutic intersubjectivity, and therapist-client attunement as mechanisms of change.
Her work also examines how diverse therapist and client characteristics (e.g., therapist and client attachment styles), along with longitudinal therapy processes, influence mental health outcomes. Her overarching goal is to advance clinical theory, practice, and therapist training at the intersection of psychotherapy, psychodynamic/interpersonal frameworks, and multiculturalism.
