Education: Dr. Nilsson received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at Western Michigan University in 1999.
Teaching: Dr. Nilsson teaches undergraduate courses in Psychological Disorders and Psychology of Gender, and graduate courses in Professional Counseling, Counseling Practicum, Supervision and Methods, Psychopathology, Diagnosing and Classification, Supervision Practicum, and Self in a Multicultural Society.
Research: Dr. Nilsson’s research focuses on the wellbeing, adjustment, and mental health of immigrant and international populations (e.g., refugees, international students, first-and second-generation immigrant families), Specifically, she is interested in how variables, such as culture, trauma, discrimination, resilience, coping, and program interventions influence wellbeing and adjustment. Additionally, she conducts research on social justice advocacy, clinical supervision, and interprofessional care.
