Mentoring

Our Psychology Mentoring Program (PMP) and Roo Advising work together to help psychology students succeed during their time at UMKC!

Roo Advising is the advising system used at UMKC.  Roo Advising teams have been assembled based on advisor expertise within various disciplines.  Psychology students are advised by the team focusing on Human Behavior, Education, and Justice (HBEJ).  If you are looking for academic advising assistance, you can schedule an appointment with an advisor through Connect.  Or, you can also call Roo Advising at 816-235-1148.

Your assigned Roo Advisor will be able to help you with a variety of tasks, including: selecting courses, checking major and degree requirements to keep you on track for graduation, helping you make sure transfer courses are applying to your records correctly, answering questions about registering for classes on Pathway, and many more!

Our Psychology Mentors focus on professional development and career guidance.  We’re eager to assist you with things like:

  • Finding an internship that aligns with your professional interests
  • Connecting you with campus resources to support your post-graduation plans
  • Guiding you through the application process for graduate and professional programs
  • Answering your questions about how to maximize your time while on campus
  • Anything else a mentor can do to help you succeed!
To meet with a Psychology Mentor, please email us with information about what professional development or mentoring things you’d like to talk about.  We will connect you with a Psychology Mentor who can help you.  We look forward to working with you to provide psychology-related professional support to help you meet your long-term goals.
