4+1 Teacher Program

Are you passionate about art, science, a foreign language or any number of other subjects and looking to share that passion with the students you serve?

Many people come to teaching through another field, be it biology, physics, mathematics, art, English, foreign languages and much more. Their unique talents in these fields can be paired with a desire to teach, leading to a rewarding career in a high-demand profession.

Undergraduate students interested in teaching middle school, high school or K12 areas can be part of a “pre-teacher” pathway in which they begin working toward their teacher certification through our 4+1 program. Through this program, students complete their bachelor’s degree in the area of study of their choosing and a Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree within a five-year timeframe.

Program features:

  • Students in this program are able to take foundational courses in education while earning their bachelor’s degree in their academic content area.
  • Students also have the option of completing the 4+1 education courses as part of a minor in education.
  • The 4+1 also allows students to take graduate coursework as an undergraduate, which allows for the two degrees to be completed within the five-year timeframe.
  • Students completing the program will hold a bachelor’s degree, Master of Arts in Teaching and teacher certification in one calendar year!
  • All academic majors are welcome to apply.
